At the Appeal Board hearing held on 17th December 2008, we were pleasantly surprised when MPAJ informed the Board that the planning permission given to IJM Properties to develop on Phase 3 Hill Taman Melawati, had in fact expired on 30th August 2008. IJM was supposed to apply for an extension before the expiry date but only did so only in early December. As they had allowed the planning permission to lapse, the application has to go through the One Stop Centre (OSC), of MPAJ. We are pleased to announce that at the OSC meeting held today, IJM's application for an extension to their planning permission was rejected. On behalf of the residents of Taman Melawati, we welcome the decision and wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the members of the OSC. While we respect the landowner's right to develop their land, development must not compromise the safety and well being of the residents in the surrounding area, or cause degradation to the environment. IJM's proposal to develop Taman Melawati Hill would have caused serious and grave consequences to both the residents and the environment. Taman Melawati Residents' Association wish to thank everyone who has supported our fight to save Taman Melawati Hill: the affected residents who filed in their objection and attended hearing after hearing, our panel of lawyers who are donating their professional services, and residents and supporters who donated time, money and the much appreciated prayers to this cause. We do not think that the developers will stop filing in future applications. We foresee this to be an ongoing fight and we hope for your continuous support. Lets enjoy our Christmas present. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year The Committee, |
