Landslide wreaks havoc at Ampang pre-school

By FAZLEENA AZIZ

KUALA LUMPUR: A kindergarten along Jalan H1, Taman Melawati, in Ampang became the latest victim of a landslide triggered by heavy rain.

Tadika Aman Ceria principal Helen Law said rain poured down at 3.45pm.

Mini disaster: A view from the hilltop overlooking Tadika Aman Ceria which is covered by mud following a downpour yesterday.

"The water just swept into the house and now all that is left is a pool of mud."

"We managed to bring the children to some of the neighbours' houses while others were dismissed earlier," she said.

Law said that the present drainage system was not able to control the water coming from Bukit Mas.

The landslide-prone area was hit last Sept 26 causing damages to two double-storey link houses on Jalan H4 and many areas in Jalan H1.

Latiff Ismail, 32, who was driving along the area during the downpour, saw water flowing swiftly down from Bukit Mas.

"The water overflowed and flooded the area," he said, adding that one of the main causes of the frequent landslide was a nearby waterfall.

"The present monsoon drains are unable to cope with excessive water especially during heavy rain."

A bystander, meanwhile, recommended that a culvert be built near the waterfall as a solution.
